The COVID-19 pandemic has forced everyone everywhere to make adjustments and improvements to how they sanitise to reduce the spread of germs. At East Bentleigh Dental Group, we’ve installed a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that can remove at least 99.97% of airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns, including airborne droplets of COVID-19. This blog post contains more details about the air filters we use.
Originally developed to capture and remove fine radioactive particles, HEPA filters have since been adopted for medical applications. They’re widely used in environments that need to be kept clean and sterile, including dental clinics. Many air purifiers now feature HEPA filters which can be set up in various areas to maintain healthier and more hygienic indoor air quality.
HEPA filters force air through a fine mesh, trapping harmful particles of every size. This includes everything from dust and pollen through to moisture and dust mites. They’re also effective at capturing bacteria and viruses, including airborne droplets of COVID-19.
COVID-19 is notorious for its high transmissibility and relative virulence compared to other viruses, which is why it’s important to limit the spread of it as much as possible. HEPA filters can catch droplets of respiratory fluid and salvia containing the virus, helping dental clinics and other medical environments to continue operating as safely as possible and provide people with the care they need.
